123 - Something A Little Bit Different...

When you attend a geek-fest like Supanova you see all manner of interesting things... Dragons and Terminators are practically normal! Unfortunately I was so busy taking in the wider views I totally neglected to pull out the macro lens and take any detail shots. So this post is a wee bit different to my usual detail/wide shot kinda deal. But hey - cool costumes!!

This storm trooper and Boba Fett gave me their best Blue Steel - although I'm not sure why Mr Storm Trooper felt the need to protect his crotch...
Pretty pretty princesses with very big guns...
I thought this Obélix was spot on!
The Umbrella Corporation were out in force... I may need to do a Resident Evil marathon again sometime soon...
I'm not actually sure what this costume is, but it's kinda amazing. I really need to step up my cosplay game next year...

122 - Scooby Scooby Doo, Where are you?

Ahhh Supanova. Where geeky folk can gather and just be themselves. Or rather, dress up and be other people. But awesome people. I've got some photos from the convention itself to come in the next couple of days but I thought I'd start with my 'cosplay'. I use the term loosely because I'm more of a casual dress-up kinda girl. Mostly because I always leave it to the last minute. This year I decided to go with Daphne Blake (from Scooby Doo) because I've already got the orange hair going for me and the only thing I needed to purchase for it was the headband :P. Maybe next year I'll do something more full on... should start thinking about it now!

121 - Twinkling Lights

Another view of the 140 William Street launch - this area was all prepped with a stage ready for Gossling to perform. I missed the music but did enjoy all the fairy lights!

120 - East Village

My office really is in the best spot in the city. Directly above the train station has always been a plus, but over the last few months the area around 140 William has really grown and developed. It now includes lots of great restaurants and cafes and is full of the cool street art that seems to have overtaken walls all around Perth over the last few years. Tonight was the official launch event and so Mum and Dad came in to have a little after work early dinner and check things out with me. We decided to go to East Village - one of the newest venues (it only opened a couple of weeks ago). They describe themselves as a 'purveyor of classic American dining'. Having never been to America I don't know how accurate that is, but maaaaaan, my pulled pork burger was pretty darn tasty. The fit out was quite cool too - all in all a great way to finish off the work day.

119 - Gangsta

I'm sorry my posts have been so sporadic lately - June/July get a tad crazy for me at work and I've been getting to the end of the day lately and either realising I've not had a chance to take any photos throughout the day, or being just too sick of screens to even think of turning on another computer. So I will try to get here over the next couple of weeks but it may not be a daily deal for a little bit...

These shots were taken as I wandered down Grand Lane at lunchtime today. I wasn't on my way to Toastface Grillah this time (they do very droolworthy toasted sandwiches - so naughty but oh so tasty) but I couldn't resist snapping a quick shot of their awesome gangsta signage. I was actually on my way to the costume shop Hurly Burly to pick up a final touch for the weekend when Supanova rolls around. Looking forward to getting my geek on - I'll definitely bring you some photos from there!

117 - Sneaky Skies

What a dreary night it is tonight. All plans of going for a beach walk were foiled by the rain, which provided the perfect excuse to go to Hillarys Boat Harbour and get burgers for dinner! Although you can't see it in any of these photos (much to my frustration!) we were treated to quite a nice lightning show over the lights of the harbour. Unfortunately the strikes timed themselves perfectly with whenever I lowered my camera.

116 - Calm Blue Oceans

On long work days like today I find myself channeling Miss Hoover from the Simpsons... 'Calm blue oceans, calm blue oceans...'. Luckily after a delicious home cooked meal at Mum and Dad's place and a few episodes of Vikings I feel almost totally restored again - at least enough to get up and do it all again tomorrow!

115 - Finally

Well! This post took a lot longer to come together than I had planned! Sorry for the sudden absence - I've had a very good friend here from over east and the end of financial year is absolutely the worst time of the year work-wise for me. So exhausting work days and mass socialising combined equals  no time for computers at the end of the day!

Now I know it may be hard to believe - what with my tough, punk rock exterior (Ha!) but when I was a kid I was a little obsessed with fairies. When we hit the big ivy-covered interior of Careniup Lake, while Mamma's mind went to dinosaurs mine went to pixies and fairies. We even found a bunch of glitter scattered around...

114 - Green

Now I *might* be a bit of a nerd. And when I say 'might' I mean definitely. And when I say a bit I mean a lot. But when we squelched our way through a bunch of mud to find the scene below, for some reason all I could think of was The Shire. Although it's not really hilly enough. There was however a spot that looked like a Hobbit hole complete with tree chimney (which I failed to get a single good photo of... *sigh*). And that made me pretty happy. But alas Bilbo was nowhere to be found.

113 - Bumblebees and Black Swans

Sunday was a beautiful morning for a walk in the sunshine and Mum and I took advantage of it by going for a nice stroll first around and then kinda... through the middle of the swamp at Lake Careniup (definitely should have worn wellington boots!). Around the edges it was much like any other swamp - water, flowers, ducks and black swans. Once we ventured a little further in it was like walking into some kinda ivy/morning glory covered fairy land... but more on that tomorrow!

112 - Teaser

Yesterday Mamma and I discovered a pretty darn awesome place. And when I say discovered.... I mean I've been seeing of photos of this place popping up all over the place and HAD to go check it out. Lets just say ivy is a feature. More tomorrow...

110 - Spikes

Sorry for the photo heavy post but there was just something about these flowers that I found fascinating. And I almost walked straight past them! Amazing what you find when you just open your eyes...
