107 - Just Breathe...

So this week I had some computer issues. Issues that have resulted in the loss of most of my photos from high school through to now. It's somewhat devastating. At times like this one COULD have a tantrum and binge eat chocolate for comfort. The urge was definitely there. Instead I chose to go on a long hike out in the fresh air and get away from the computer for a while. And I suppose I have learned a valuable life lesson about making sure the important things are backed up...

  1. Yikes! So sorry. I have two external drives I use as backup. I don't trust one only. At least with computers we have the opportunity to backup. Before digital I lost a bunch old photographs to a flood.

  2. Now that reminds me....... Did you see any tree snakes while you were getting some fresh air?

  3. I know I needed an external back up disk but have been delaying till now. I recently lost some photos which I have taken for my blog post due to some technology problem with my hand phone. The only thing is to relax and get our minds off it.

  4. That's sad Aimee. Actually just today I asked my son about the best way to backup all my photos where I keep photos since 2006! I'll do it soon, so nothing happens to them!

  5. Have you tried to restore them? There are free programs. If that doesn´t work, a virus killed my old PC but at the store they could get my data back, I payed some €75 and they sure were worth it! Now I also have an external drive for a copy.
Oh, shoot, that is a big outch to loose all those pics!

  9. Computer failures bite us all. Even thought I generally back up my back ups; the one time I did not my drive failed.

I hope you had an enjoyable hike.

  10. Oh no, that is so horrible, I know this feeling, and it's wonderful that you are able to hold on to what is important. It's a lesson well to remember, backing up (or even just putting things on CD's) I do that with photos from my phone all the time!

  11. Flickr and Google have free back-up services these days. Just open a flickr account, install the new uploader and let the uploading begin! all your photos will be private until you cnange that setting.

  12. Hi Aimee...so sorry about all of this. There are people (my son is one) who are able to retrieve material that seems forever lost. I'm sure you have several of these in Perth. It may cost a bit, but I'd guess it's worth it.

  13. That's quite devastating. I too used to keep putting off backing up till I lost a welter of photos. Now I have an external drive back up and back it all up in the cloud too. Good on you to take a long walk and breathe. Somehow, just staring at the computer doesn't bring it all back.

  14. I'm so sorry to hear this news. I store photos (and important stuff) on an external hard drive (in case the computer dies) and I also upload them (in case they are stolen or the house burns down--I'm a bit paranoid like that). Maybe a computer person can find them for you.

  15. I'm so sorry you lost such precious photos. Truth be told, I have been there - done that! I even had an external hard drive and that failed too. Now I have TWO external hard drives. :))
