This sculpture titled 'Ascalon' was commissioned by the St Georges Cathedral in 2009. Named after
the lance used by St George to slay the dragon, the artwork aims “to
evoke a sense of righteous power and victory over a force of darkness
and oppression." I'm not sure that those are the things it evokes for me personally, but I have always enjoyed the feeling of movement around this piece. And all the better with a glint of afternoon sun!

156 - For the Birds
If you want to find interesting things around my work building, all you need to do is look up! These birdcages are up on the second floor near The Aviary, a rooftop bar which is very lovely in the spring/summertime - although apparently the drinks are exorbitantly expensive - not an issue for a teetotaler like me!

155 - Fresh Air and Fresh Names
On days like today I just wish that I could spend all my time frolicking about outside in the sun. Instead I have to make do with wandering around finding pretty photo ops on my lunch break. Today's meandering took me through the Government House gardens where I found masses of cute little white butterflies flitting around in the flowers. I will need to come back and take that last shot again when all the roses are out!
Also, you may have noticed I've changed my blog header to match the url address. When I first started up this little corner of the interwebs I had all good intentions of being a daily blogger. Turns out, with work and exercise and just... life I'm not able to maintain that, so I decided that 'Daily Details' doesn't really fit. And 'A Few Times a Weeks Details' just doesn't have the same ring to it! I hope you're all having a fabulous week! I can't even believe tomorrow is Friday - this week has FLOWN by!

154 - A Few Things I've Learned from my Mum
A lot of you follow Perth Daily Photo, so you already know my Mum is super duper awesome, I consider myself lucky to be (hopefully) very much like her. Seeing as it's her birthday today I thought I'd share some of the things I've learned from my Mamma.
Be passionate - Now I wouldn't describe Mum as a geek at all, but I definitely think that I learned my geeky, joyous enthusiasm for the things that I love from her. Mum has always taught me to embrace things wholeheartedly - where's the fun in being too cool to really enjoy things?
Be generous - Not only with money, but generous with time, generous with love, generous with kindness. Mum gives so much to the people she loves. We are insanely lucky to have her. I always thought she would have made an incredible counselor or therapist or something along those lines.
If you make a plan, stick to it - I like to think I'm a pretty responsible, reliable person and I'd say that all comes down to this one. Growing up if I made a commitment, unless I had a really good reason, I had to stick to it. While that might have been a drag on occasion I think it's steered me well as an adult.
Pay your bills!! - Whenever I see something frivolous that I want to buy, Mum's voice pops unbidden into my head "Can you really afford that? Do you need it? You have rates to pay!". And while this can be SO annoying, as a self confessed shop-a-holic I've never missed a bill or gotten myself into any debt that couldn't handle so...I spose it's a good thing?
I would have loved to post some photos of Mum here because she is beautiful... but she would kill me so I've made do with some shots of her birthday cake. I hope you've all had a wonderful start to the week!

153 - AWESOME!
It's that time of the year again when the kids are free from the shackles of school and out about in the city. And Perth city is a fabulous place to spend your school holidays if you're a kid, especially in the October holidays when the AWESOME International Arts Festival for Bright Young Things is going on! The festival features an array of of theatre, dance, early childhood activities, music, film and hands on activities for kids.
I was walking over the horseshoe bridge the other day when I spotted some random bouncy castle like shapes over in the cultural center, so you know that got stored away as a thing to go check out on a lunch break!

152 - Nightime Pathways
I've spent the day dealing with a horrendous migraine (I've gained lots of my better traits from my Mum, I just kinda wish I hadn't inherited this one!!) which put a kibosh on any photos being taken. So here are a couple more shots from last weeks long beach walk. Due to the excellent weather lately my exercise buddy and I have been pounding the pavement after work rather than hitting the gym and I've gotta say the sea air does a soul good!

151 - Moody
Super long beach walks on beautiful balmy nights are awesome. But getting home after 10pm on a school night means that you get dark and moody photos with very few words... I'm sleepy...
