While I may have failed at taking lots of photos in Sydney, I feel like I kinda made up for it in Canberra. It might be a small city and whatnot but my friend Bek certainly manages to prove to me each time I visit that that doesn't mean it is boring! From delicious food to amazing scenic hikes to a day of science, we certainly made the best of my short time there. To begin, a leisurely stroll around Lake Burley Griffin at sunset - definitely exactly what I needed a after a four and a half hour train ride! I've gotta say - Canberra does good sunsets!

32/2016 - Back to Reality
After a very relaxing break today was back to reality, back to work, back to days and days of early mornings. Booooo. I've actually been back in Perth for a week and had intended to blog some holiday snaps earlier but you know... time gets away from me! While I had an absolutely wonderful break in Sydney with my brother and his beautiful family, I found when I got home that I didn't really take many photos around the city. The ones above were about the best I got - I didn't even make it to the bridge this time! It would seem that my focus was pretty well targeted towards these two cuties.
And let me tell you, it was pretty darn hard saying goodbye to them! Can't wait to see them again at Christmas...

31/2016 - From the Other Side
Last week I posted a view looking along Murray Street with a church off in the distance (see it here)... Yesterday I decided to go for a meander down the road for a bit of a closer look. While I'm not a churchgoer myself I have to admit St Mary's Cathedral up by the Royal Perth hospital is a lovely building, especially at the moment while surrounded by bare trees and gloomy skies.
I know I've only just gotten back but tomorrow I'm off to
Sydney to visit my brother and his family (and meet my gorgeous new
nephew - can't even wait for baby cuddles!!) and then to Canberra to
visit a friend. I'll be back in a week hopefully with a stock of
interesting interstate photos to share. Have a great week!

30/2016 - Tree Lined
I seem to have a bit of a thing for the streets in the city at the moment. I think its something about the wintry days, there's just this light that makes everything look picturesque to me. Of course it doesn't hurt when the street is lined with trees full of flaming red flowers like this one...
Or lush green leaves like these... either way its nice to take a break from work to wander along them at lunch time (when it's not bucketing with rain of course!).

29/2016 - Pretty Flowers and Sweeping Skylines
The other day I may have been distracted by the hordes of mobile Pokemon junkies, but I did actually get those flower and skyline photos that drew me to Kings Park in the first place. It may have changed a little over the last few years but I always love this view of our little city...

28/2016 - Gotta Catch 'Em All!
I've been pretty slack on the old exercise front lately, so in an effort to increase my step count for the day yesterday I went for a wander up to Kings Park on my lunch break. I was thinking I could catch some photos of some flowers... maybe some nice skylines...
...and ok - I had heard that there were a bunch of Pokemon to catch up there. Turns out lots of people had heard the same thing! I know that the whole Pokemon Go thing causes mixed reactions with people (Mamma hates it and takes every opportunity she can find to tell me that its stupid), but as a highly geeky person who is maaaaaybe a tad compulsive about collecting things I kinda love it. Not in a crazy trespassing/playing while driving/roaming the streets in the middle of the night kinda way, more in a nostalgic kinda way. And hey - all those people looking at their phones made me feel less nerdy about getting up close and personal with a bunch of flowers and real life critters!

27/2016 - Sunsets and Lighthouses
Ahhh a beautiful sunset over the ocean - good for the soul! I always think that clouds make for the best sunsets and yesterday after a gloomy day the sun decided to make a brief but brilliant appearance out by the lighthouse. It would seem that this is a popular spot for young families to wind down at the end of the day with a spot of fishing, I can definitely see why!

26/2016 - Row, Row, Row Your Boat...
After work today I went for a wander down to the light house at Hillarys to see what kind of sunset I could catch. After a day full of numbers and spreadsheets the sea air has a definite restorative effect for me. Although the clouds took some of the chill out of the air today I still think that these folks rowing off into the sunset were pretty brave to venture out into the wintery waters...

25/2016 - Brrrr!
While I really do enjoy a good storm, I've gotta say, these crisp, sunny winter days are just beautiful. Perfect weather for a lunch time wander around the city - certainly provides a nice break from all of the crosseye-inducing spreadsheets I've got going on in the office at the moment!

24/2016 - A Bunch of Fun Guys
Get it? Fun guys... fungi's? Ugh... I'm the worst. :) but I do enjoy a good mushroom, both with breakfast and photographically out in the bush.

23/2016 - Spooky?
While it sounds a tad spooky, the Ghost House Walk Trail in Yanchep National Park is actually a nice easy 9.2 km hike through very pretty, very green bush. The 'Ghost House' itself is more like a "Ghost Doorway' - not much house left to speak of. I tried to find out if there was some kind of backstory to it, but alas none was to be found. Although I suppose that might be a good thing - I am a big scaredy cat when it comes to the subject of ghosts...
