28/2016 - Gotta Catch 'Em All!
I've been pretty slack on the old exercise front lately, so in an effort to increase my step count for the day yesterday I went for a wander up to Kings Park on my lunch break. I was thinking I could catch some photos of some flowers... maybe some nice skylines...
...and ok - I had heard that there were a bunch of Pokemon to catch up there. Turns out lots of people had heard the same thing! I know that the whole Pokemon Go thing causes mixed reactions with people (Mamma hates it and takes every opportunity she can find to tell me that its stupid), but as a highly geeky person who is maaaaaybe a tad compulsive about collecting things I kinda love it. Not in a crazy trespassing/playing while driving/roaming the streets in the middle of the night kinda way, more in a nostalgic kinda way. And hey - all those people looking at their phones made me feel less nerdy about getting up close and personal with a bunch of flowers and real life critters!

158 - Back Again
Hi All! I went missing again... I'm sorry! Last week was an unusually social one for me and I just didn't get the time to get here. I had two very good friends that I don't get to see so often visiting last week (one from Canada and one from Canberra) and so it was like an explosion of doing things and eating all of the food. The good news is my camera came with me so I'll have a few posts this week :) These shots were taken in the Careniup Swamp - I know I know - you guys have already seen this place enough on this blog but it's just so pretty and my friend had a new camera lens to play with... I just had to show it to her!

Fifty Nine - Ants!
So today was definitely a day for stock photographs! It's been a couple of hectic days at work and I just haven't been able to pull myself away from the desk for long enough to wander around and take photos. TGIF I say! These were taken a couple of weeks ago on a walk through Hepburn Heights. I actually have no idea what the white stuff on these branches was but the ants were nuts for it...

Fifty Five - Lady Luck
I've always thought ladybugs are lucky - I'm sure that's something I got from my Mum (although she maybe just thought it was lucky to have them on her roses to eat the aphids). But lucky or no - I've always thought they were very cute. I don't actually think I've seen one this orange before - normally we just get the usual red variety so I was happy to catch this little guy!

Fifty One - Golden Silk Orb Weaver
The things I do for my art!!! I fall pretty solidly into the camp of 'spiders freak me right the hell out', but on our stroll through the bush on the weekend Dad pointed out the many Golden Silk Orb Weaver Spiders hanging out just off the path and my desire for a good photo outweighed my fear. I wasn't QUITE brave enough to get up close enough to get a true super duper close macro - every time the wind blew the web closer to me there was a bunch of jumping around and ew, ew ,ews!, but I'm pretty happy with how this one came out!
The webs are quite big and complex - I suspect that walking through one would be akin to walking into a big, horrifying net... Sunday, February 8, 2015
Thirty Seven - She Sells Seashells by the Seashore
I don't have all that many words today... so instead here are some pretty pictures from a wander through the sand and rocks, looking towards Burns Beach. I hope you've all had a fantastic weekend!

Ten - Long Walks in the Sand
As I was walking along my local beach yesterday I just about stood on this creepy little fella. Or at least, I thought it was a creepy little fella at first glance. Turns out there was no need to worry about getting my toes nipped, the former inhabitant of this shell was long gone! After a bit of googling I found that crabs actually periodically molt their shells to allow themselves room to grow. So hopefully the former inhabitant of this one had found itself somewhere a little safer to hang out!

Seven - Critters Up Close part 2
How beautiful is this little guy?!
So beautiful I couldn't decide on a single picture of him! While wandering around the Yellagonga Regional Park yesterday these little dragonflies were flitting all over the place. I've always had trouble catching pictures of dragonflies, but it turns out that if you sit really still (or in my case half lie on the ground with your butt in the air to get a good angle really still) they are quite happy to pose for you!

Six - Critters Up Close part 1
I went for a leisurely stroll through the Yellagonga Regional Park this morning with Mamma and Pappa and it turned out to be a photography goldmine of little critters and interesting structures, so many little details to be found. Although I am trying to be more observant I've gotta say its really good to walk with with my Mum and Dad, they definitely point out some great things that I would still miss. I was pretty pleased to catch this little dude, these little crickets were all over the place but not so many of them were keen to let me get this up close and personal!
