Seven - Critters Up Close part 2

How beautiful is this little guy?!
So beautiful I couldn't decide on a single picture of him! While wandering around the Yellagonga Regional Park yesterday these little dragonflies were flitting all over the place. I've always had trouble catching pictures of dragonflies, but it turns out that if you sit really still (or in my case half lie on the ground with your butt in the air to get a good angle really still) they are quite happy to pose for you!

  1. You have done well to capture them so nicely. They always buzz off when I try to capture them. Must try the butt in the air technique. I came over from Grace at Perth daily photo.

  5. I'm sure there's lots of 'action' hidden in this field.

  6. You need a lot of patience for this type of photos, I think!

  7. It appears that you have inherited your mother's photographic skills! Thanks for stopping by Ocala (Florida) Photos. I didn't realize you had a blog ... but I'll be back!

  8. These are such interesting creatures. I've taken many photos of them and I'm always amazed at how mechanical they look when see them up close.

  9. Beautiful shots!

I've always liked the dragonflies we have here- they gorge themselves on mosquitoes, and any insect that does that does us a favour.

I remember watching my parents' cats chasing them to no avail- the dragonflies were far more maneuverable.

  10. I have rarely seen them sitting still for long!

  11. Welcome to the world of photographer's contortions. It's amazing what antics a photographer is prepared to suffer, just to get that 'must have' photo. I still have not photographed a dragonfly - not that I have seen many in my world - maybe 3. Your photos capture the fascinating beauty of those wings.
