Fifty One - Golden Silk Orb Weaver

The things I do for my art!!! I fall pretty solidly into the camp of 'spiders freak me right the hell out', but on our stroll through the bush on the weekend Dad pointed out the many Golden Silk Orb Weaver Spiders hanging out just off the path and my desire for a good photo outweighed my fear. I wasn't QUITE brave enough to get up close enough to get a true super duper close macro - every time the wind blew the web closer to me there was a bunch of jumping around and ew, ew ,ews!, but I'm pretty happy with how this one came out!
The webs are quite big and complex - I suspect that walking through one would be akin to walking into a big, horrifying net...

  1. Ew, ew is right! I'm impressed that you got this close and you got a good shot for your efforts. I'm with you on the spider thing. I do not like them at all.

  3. The amount of craftsmanship that goes into these webs... you can't help but admire the critters for that. And if they happen to gobble up mosquitos, so much the better.

    I bring greetings from Malaysia.
I too am afraid of spiders. That was a pretty close one with the spider.

  17. Wonderful light on the spider and its web. The detail of the web art is intriguing. And yes. Having walked into a few webs near my front path, they are like a sticky net, but o so fascinating for photography.
