Earth Hour is a worldwide movement for the planet organized by the World Wide Fund for Nature . It's an annual event which encourages individuals,
communities, households and businesses to turn off their non-essential lights for an hour, from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. on the last Saturday in March, as a symbol for their commitment to the planet. It originated in Sydney and has grown to engage more than 7000 cities and towns
worldwide. I got in on the action by having a lovely quiet Saturday night with the lights, TV and various other screens turned off (aside from the time its taking me to do this post!). Reading by candlelight/torchlight is a rather relaxing way to spend some time. Do you take part in this event in your cities?
Not so much, here in Minnesota anyway. We have a fund for it, and lots of things offered at our U of M ....but this is very cool.
ReplyDeleteI left the lights off for a few hours, but we went out to dinner. Nice idea to read a book by candlelight though.
ReplyDeleteYes, it happens in this city.
ReplyDeleteNo, not much here in Oregon either, unfortunately, but this is wonderful! Thanks for sharing! I do love reading by candlelight -- old romantic that I am!
ReplyDeleteOh dear! I guess they didn't realize that in Joondalup, I think you might have been able to see the lights from space :) Sounds like a relaxing evening Aimee, you needed it !
ReplyDeletewe took part the 1st year. Last two years we missed it.
ReplyDeleteYes we do it here too. We will use our solar lights for a bit of atmosphere!
ReplyDeleteYes we do here also.
ReplyDeleteGreat weekend.
We've celebrated Earth Hour here.
ReplyDeleteIt happens around here, but participation is spotty.
ReplyDeleteThe glow of your candles is so magical. Earth Hour doesn't seem to get much advertisement in my world, but I see that many lights in my immediate Dromana locale seem to at least dim for awhile.
ReplyDeleteI don't think this has bee promoted in my city. I had not heard of it before. But, I like the idea and I would have done it if I had known.
ReplyDeleteLooks cosy.
ReplyDeleteWe have the same here, and some public buildings follow this event.
I can`t say that I have heard and read much about it this year.
They advertised it better earlier, some years back.
First I've heard of it. Maybe next year. Like your candle shot.
ReplyDeleteHi Aimee, this is new to me, too. A good idea, though. Beautiful photos!
ReplyDeleteIt's good to be reminded at least one hour a year about how much electricity most of us use!
