Seventy Eight - Easter Baking

I love to bake. Its kind of a problem when I'm trying to be healthy so I try to limit the amount of baked goods I produce unless I have a specific event or something to take them to. That is with the exception of the Christmas season and the Easter season when it's totally valid to go a bit baking mad. This year I decided to try my hand at hot cross buns for the first time... but of course they had to be chocolate ones!

Seventy Seven - Peeling...

So despite being very unusual and quite beautiful, when looking at this bright red, peeling tree I can't help but be reminded of how my skin looks after a bad sunburn... I hope you all had a great start to the week!!

Seventy Six - Earth Hour 2015

Earth Hour is a worldwide movement for the planet organized by the World Wide Fund for Nature . It's an annual event which encourages individuals, communities, households and businesses to turn off their non-essential lights for an hour, from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. on the last Saturday in March, as a symbol for their commitment to the planet. It originated in Sydney and has grown to engage more than 7000 cities and towns worldwide. I got in on the action by having a lovely quiet Saturday night with the lights, TV and various other screens turned off (aside from the time its taking me to do this post!). Reading by candlelight/torchlight is a rather relaxing way to spend some time. Do you take part in this event in your cities?

Seventy Five - It begins...

I resisted the Easter chocolate for longer than I normally manage this year... but I'm afraid I gave in in a big way today! In my opinion this is a fruit basket used in the best way possible. This weekend may call for some Easter baking...

Sevent Four - Hey Buddy!

When walking around the Swan River these guys can be found all over the place catching some sun and being massive posers. They are kinda cute... It's been such a busy week - so very much looking forward to a break over the weekend!

Seventy Three - ROA

Oh my am I looking forward to the PUBLIC2015 street art event. I will be off to Sydney for the start of it but I look forward to catching some artists at work when we get back... This very impressive very huge ROA piece is one of my favourites from last year's event. SO awesome.

Seventy Two - Unexpected Jewels

And I'm back with another set of hiking photos... who'd have thought oozing tree sap could be so beautiful?! It looks like a big chunk of ruby or something to me - it even glitters in the sunshine. This second shot is from a lookout about a quarter of the way along our walk - that structure in the middle is the dam I showed you yesterday.

Seventy One - Happy Hiking Sundays

Today was the perfect day for a nice long hike on the Bibbulmun Track - cool, but not too cool, cloudy but not rainy, a nice breeze but not a cold wind. Perfect. Pappa And I walked from the Perth Hills Centre Out to the Hewett's Hill Campsite and back (about 20kms) - I will definitely sleep well tonight!! About 3 km in we crossed the Mundaring Weir Dam - a very beautiful spot indeed! I've always loved the old pump station, its just such a charming building. I hope you've all had a fabulous weekend!

Seventy - Boats and Dramatic Skies

Happy weekend! Thanks for the well wishes, I woke up today able to breathe! It was glorious! These photos are actually from a slightly stormy walk around the Swan River last Sunday - I was so caught up with the Sculptures by the Sea that I actually ended up with a bit of a photo backlog. :) The Bridges walk is a beautiful way to spend a morning - especially when you stop for a delicious breakfast halfway round - a very civilized way to get a bit of exercise.

Sixty Nine - Childhood - Harbour

In my coverage of the Sculptures by the Sea I've definitely kept my favourite until last. Childhood - Harbour by Chen Wenling is just so joyful! Look at that smile! I'm sorry that I've been pretty much absent this week - I've been knocked out with a truly gross cold/sinusitis/human snot machine bug all week. But I think I'm on the mend now so I'm looking forward to looking at all of your blogs over the weekend!

Sixty Eight - For the Love of Sculpture

'For the Love of Sculpture' by WA artist Clare Davenhall was inspired by the simplicity of a bubble. An interactive sculpture, it gently spins showing off the ever changing iridescent colours (green to blue to purple). When checked out up close one finds interesting little bits of information about a few Australian loves... Which is all well and good - but to me it kinda looks like a big ol' dragon egg...

Sixty Seven - A Series of Chubby Dudes

I feel like I'm spending forever on the Sculptures by the Sea... So I've decided to do a bit of a combo post with a number of different sculptures, and naturally I felt that three chubby figures would work well with each other. Two of these I think are adorable. One might give me nightmares. Guess which is which!

Sixty Six - House of Mirrors

The House of Mirrors by NEON is 'a reinterpretation of the classic Australian Beach Hut, an architectural typology that traditionally sits boldly and brightly in the landscape, blocking out the exterior environment whilst proclaiming its own presence'.

The House of Mirrors challenges this approach by disappearing into the natural landscape. Instead of blocking nature out, it welcomes and amplifies it. It is just one of the interactive sculptures featured in the sculptures by the sea with people being able to enter the 'hut' - its a little like being surrounded by very sandy funhouse mirrors in there though.

Sixty Five - Mi No 5 - Fabulous Flamingoes

What fun these flamingoes are! From a distance I actually thought these were made of some kind of velvet or something, but up close they turned out to be a fine red metal mesh. I mostly caught these guys from close up but if you want to see some wider shots check out Mum's post here.

Sixty Four - Over, Under, Through, Around

The next piece on my close up tour of the Sculptures by the Sea is Over Under Through Around by Peter Zappa. Peter is a WA artist whose works explore the aesthetics of drawing. He uses sculpture as the medium to create three dimensional drawings or ‘drawings in space’. He says that "In transposing a drawing from paper into a metal sculpture, the work defies definitions as the object that is seen by the viewer will depend on where you view the work." My favourite angle on this particular piece was straight down this spiralling diamond shape, I loved that the metal looks almost flecked with glitter when you get up close.

Sixty Three - Hearts in Paradise

I do love Ayad Alqaragholli's work. His sculptures always have such movement and such an elegant and joyful feel to them. This one, entitled 'Hearts in Paradise represents love and happiness and I think it does a pretty great job of portraying that. The chair is also surprisingly comfy!

Sixty Two - The Lucky Country

Anyone who follows Mum's blog will know that we went along to check out this years Sculptures by the Sea over the weekend - hopefully our perspectives on things are different enough for you to not get too overloaded on the subject (because I'm sure it will be providing quite a few posts for both of us!) The first sculpture to really catch my eye was 'The Lucky Country' by Norton Flavel. So shiny, such great reflections (actually there were a lot of great reflections to be found here this year).
This was the same artist that designed one of my favourite pieces from last year - the giant goon bag, and this was again one of my favourites. I liked that wherever you were on this stretch of the beach there was this super shiny ball floating in view...

Sixty One - Dainty Desserts and Irritating Internet

GRRRR. I hate having internet issues. I'm not sure whats going on with mine but access has been patchy at best over the last couple of days. So annoying!! To finish off with our trip to Tarts on Saturday, here are my lovely little desserts. I think my favourite was the adorable tiny apple pie...
Now to get to work on editing the 400+ photos I tool yesterday at the Sculptures by the Sea...
