Twelve - Bushfires and Seed Pods

In Australia unfortunately bushfires are something that we've had to get used to. Last Saturday was a pretty hairy day in Perth with a massive fire in the North Western Suburbs (which is still a threat today). We also had a fire a bit closer to home in my favourite little area of bush to walk and I was quite worried - there is an awful lot of wildlife living there. Thanks to the efforts of our fantastic firemen, this one at least was put out pretty quickly and most of the bushland was able to be saved. Walking through this afternoon it was strange to reach an area that almost looks like a snowy winter scene. It seems that this one may have been deliberately lit - I just don't understand why anyone would do that...

  1. We have the same problem with fires here in Arizona especially in the summer months when it is so dry and hot. I'm the same way, not really understanding anyone who would intentionally set a brush fire. It's so sad to see the aftermath of such devastation. On a brighter note, what an interesting looking seed pod you have here today. It's a little abstract work of art.

  2. It certainly looks sad, but nature has a way of bouncing back from fire.

  3. Yes. We've had our bushfire challenges too - both on my peninsula and more widely in Victoria. Strangely, we've only had a handful of summer hot days. Today is wet and cool. Those seed pods are delightful in macro.

  4. Great macro shot! We have to all remember that the vast majority of people are wonderful, but the bad ones cause so much trouble don't they?

  6. I cannot understand it either! Such a shame. I do love that first shot!

  7. Very sad that fires are lit on purpose, the devastation that it causes to the land, houses and people is terrible!
That seed pod photo is beautiful!

  8. Yup it was definitely deliberately started, tragic.. Fortunately the Aussie bush regenerates well after fires, the main concern is the wildlife. Amazing find with the seed Aimee and fab wider shot.

  9. Bush-fires are really frightening. We once, near Wolf Creek Meteorite Crater, were too near to my taste to one - frightening! And to think they might be lit on purpose... unbelieveable... Looks a tad like snow, when it´s over, huh? I prefer the first pic :-)

  10. We are next door to the 700,000 plus acre Ocala National Forest. The forest and other parts of central Florida are subject to destruction by arson every year. It's terrible and discouraging, and I don't understand people that do these things, either.
